Chana Masala
( Spicy Chickpeas/ Chole)
Chana Masala is a deliciously spiced, saucy & very popular Punjabi dish served with bhature, puri, chapati, naan or rice. In this recipe chickpeas are simmered with a mixture of garlic, ginger, onion, tomatoes, red chili powder, cumin seeds, garam masala, coriander powder, turmeric powder, chana masala & salt.
This fantastic dish chana masala is typically served with bhatura. It can be sreved as main course with chapati or as a mid-afternoon snack in the form of a "chaat" with samosa, aloo tikki etc. Chana masala is a very important part of famous Indian street food.
Ingredients:
1 cup white chick peas ( chana)
1 onion chopped
2-3 tomatoes chopped
2-3 green chilies chopped
1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tsp red chili powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp dry mango powder
1 tsp chana masala powder
2 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
Pinch of soda bi carb
2 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
Method:
1. Soak white chick peas (chana) over night in enough water.
2. Pressure cook chick peas in water with soda bi carb till become soft.
3. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds & cumin seeds, let them crackle.
4. Add onion & cook till become light brown.
5. Now add ginger garlic paste & green chili, cook it for few sec.
6. Add tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder & cook till oil

7. Add pressure cooked white chick peas,garam masala, salt, dry mango powder, chana
masala & mix well.

8. Now add some water & cook till gravy becomes thick.
9. Transfer chole masala into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves
& serve hot
