Ganesh Chaturthi  is one of the very popular  festivals celebrated in India with a great devotion specially in the Maharashtra. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh,the younger son of Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati. 

Devotees offer various sweets and savouries to the deity because Lord Ganesha loves 
sweets. Lord Ganapati is very fond of modaks. Modak is believed to be Ganesha's favourite
food. He is also known as "Modakapriya", someone who likes modak.


Motichoor Modak


There are various kinds of modak like Ukadiche modak, mawa modak, chocolate modak, rava modak, churma modak, fried modak, mango modak, malai modak, kesar modak, coconut modak . I am adding one more in this long list of modaks ......"Motichoor Modak" which you can make for Prasad during this Ganesh festival.

Ingredients:


2 cup gram flour (besan)
1 cup sugar
2 cup water
1/4 tsp orange food color
1 tsp cardamom powder 
1 tsp melon seeds
Ghee for frying



Method:


1. Heat sugar with water, orange food color & make sugar syrup with one thread
    consistency.


2. Add cardamom powder to the sugar syrup, mix well & keep it aside.

3. Sieve the gram flour (besan) in a bowl add orange food color & mix well.

4. Now add water little by little & make smooth batter. The consistency should be thick.

5. Heat ghee in a pan make boondis using a perforated laddle. Fry for 2-3 minutes.

6. Now drain the boondi on a kitchen towel, put the boondi in the sugar syrup.

7. Repeat the same procedure for remaining batter. 

8. Add melon seeds to boondis & mix well.

9. Take a modak mould, grease with ghee, fill in boondis. Make into modak shape.

10. Repeat the same procedure & make all modaks with remaining boondis.

11. Keep in the fridge for an hour.

12. Delicious Motichoor Modaks are ready to offer Lord Ganesh.

Ganesh Chaturthi  is one of the important Hindu festivals celebrated throughout India with a great devotion. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh. Lord Ganesha love sweets especially "Modak"  Lord Ganesha is also called ‘Modakpriya’, which means one who loves Modaks. It is said that worship of Ganesha is incomplete without Modaks. 

Modak is a very popular dish prepared during Ganesh festival. Modaks are offered to the Ganpati Bappa & then served as Prasad to the devotees. Ukadiche modak, coconut modak, dry fruit modak, chocolate modakrava modak, mango modak, motichoor modak, mawa modak, malai modak, paneer modak,fried modak, til modak, kesar modak.......a variety of modaks are there. I am adding one more in this long list of modaks ......"Churma Modak" which you can make for Prasad during this Ganesh festival.

Churma modak a sweet made of whole wheat flour, jagerry/sugar, ghee & dry fruits Churma modak is really an amazing & delicious recipe which is easy to prepare. It is very good for kids........I am sure you will love it.

Some other sweets you can prepare during Ganesh Festival are.......Motichoor Laddu,

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cardamom powder
2 tbsp cashew nut, almond chopped
1 cup ghee
Water as required

Method:


1. In a big bowl add wheat flour, 2 tbsp ghee & mix well.

2. Make a soft dough using enough water.

3. Knead the dough & divide it in to apple size portion.

4. Make a bati/ball out of each portion.

5. Now bake this batis/balls in a preheated oven on 250°C for 20-25 mins.
    If you want you can deep fry these batis/balls in ghee.


6. Take out batis/balls from oven.let it cool a bit & grind them into coarse powder or churma.

7. Add powdered sugar, cardamom powder, ghee, cashew nut, almond to churma
    & mix well.


8. Finally give churma the shape of modak with modak mould.


9. Churma Modaks are ready to offer to Lord Ganesha on the auspicious occasion
    of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Modaks have a special importance in the worship of the Lord Ganesh, Modak is believed
to be his 
favorite food. It can can be fried or steamed.

It is deep fried modak recipe with sweet, chewy coconut stuffing and very crispy outside covering. Have fine flour, coconut, sugar, cardamom powder & dry fruits as main
ingredients.

Ingredients:


For filling:


50 gms dry coconut grated
120 gms powdered sugar
25 gms cashew nuts chopped
25 gms almond powder
25 gms almonds chopped
50 gms milk powder
1/2 tsp cardamom powder

For cover:


150 gms fine flour (maida)
1 tsp oil/ghee (clarified butter)
Ghee/oil for deep frying
Water as required


Method:



1.Take all ingredients of filling in a bowl, mix well & keep aside.

2. For cover, take fine flour in a bowl, add oil/ghee, water to the flour, knead
    stretchy & smooth dough.

3. Take a small ball of dough & roll it into a circle.

4. Place a spoon of the filling mixture in center, now start to close edges by
    making small folds, gather it at center & close to form a small peak. bring
    edges together & seal. 

5. Repeat same with the remaining dough.

6. Heat oil/ghee in a pan, deep fry on medium heat until crisp, brown.

7. Modaks are ready to offer Lord Ganesha.

Ganesh Chathurthi is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day Hindu festival celebrated to honour the Lord Ganesh.It is observed by installing Lord Ganesha's idols at homes for ten days, worshiping them &
then finally immersing them in water. 
From Lord Ganesha's Isthapna to Visarjan, devotees offer various sweets and savouries to the deity, amongst which modaks & laddus make for the most prominent prasad of the festival, modak is believed to be Ganesha's favourite food, & hence he is also known as Modakapriya, someone who likes modak.
