Vada Pav


Vada Pav is one of the most popular & favorite street foods in Maharashtra. Mumbai’s very own burger & most loved snack.

In Vada Pav... Pav is a bun bread, Vada is a potato mixture coated with gram flour batter & deep fried, served with spicy garlic chutney. Fried green chili is also served with this.


Ingredients:

4 pav/bun
Red chutney
Green chutney



For vadas filling:



4 potatoes 
1 tbsp coriander 
1 tbsp oil 
1/2 tsp green chilies finely chopped  
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds 
1 tsp turmeric powder 
Salt to taste 

For outer covering:


1 cup gram flour (basen)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1/2 cup water
Oil to deep fry
Salt  to taste

Method:


1. Pressure cook potatoes, peel & mash it.

2. Heat the oil, add mustard seeds, let them crackle, now add cumin
    seeds, ginger-garlic paste & green chilies.

3. Next add mashed potatoes, turmeric powder, coriander, salt & mix well.

4. Remove from fire, allow it to cool, divide into equal portion & make
   small balls.

5. Combine gram flour, salt, turmeric powder & chili powder.

6. Add water, form a paste like we do for pakodas.

7. Take balls one by one, dip into gram flour paste, deep fry vadas till
     golden brown. 

8. Drain on absorbent paper & keep aside.

How to serve:


1. Slice each pav into two, apply red chutney on bottom side & green
    chutney on top side.

2. Take one vada, press a little bit. Put it on bottom slice of pav, top with
    other slice.

3. Vada pav is ready to serve.

  2. Awesome... tempting. whenever I eat an outside vada pav, I do not finish it, as I feel it spicy in 2 to 3 bites. This home made, is really making me to give a try to make.
