Falahari idli or sama ke chawal ki idli is a light and healthy dish prepared during fasting days like Navrati, Mahashivratri, janmashtami etc.

The recipe of making this idli is very simple & quick. Sama ke chawal, sago, peanut, fresh coconut give this dish a different taste.

Ingredients:


1 cup sama ke chawal/ varai/ moraiya/ barnyard millet flour
2 tbsp sabudana (sago) soaked
1 tbsp peanut powder
1/2 cup yogurt
1 tsp fruit salt (Eno)
1/4 tsp black pepper powder
1/4 tsp green chili-ginger paste
1 tbsp fresh coconut grated
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp sesame seeds
4-5 curry leaves
1 tsp oil
Water as required
Rock salt to taste

Method:


1. Add sama chawal flour, yogurt, black pepper powder, green chili-ginger paste, peanuts,      
    soaked sago, grated coconut & rock salt in a bowl.

2. Add water mix entire mixture well & make a coarse paste.The batter of this idli should
    be slightly thinner then the regular idli batter,

3. Boil enough water in the idli steamer & grease small idli mould with oil.

4. When water start boiling, mix fruit salt in batter & immediately pour idli batter in moulds.

5. Cover the steamer & cook for 10 mins.

6. Now switch off flame, remove the plates from the steamer.  
  
7. After getting it cool, unmould idli with help of spoon or knife.

8. Heat oil in a pan add cumin seeds, curry leaves, sesame seeds & red chili powder.

9. Pour this tempering over cooked idlis

10. Serve hot with green chutney.

  2. Excellent! I make varai idli with udad daal. Is varai flour available in the market or is varai used directly in the recipe? Thanks in advance.
