Coconut chutney is a South Indian side dish which is an excellent accompaniment to
dosa, idli & vada. It has great texture & a unique taste.


Coconut Chutney


This nutritious chutney is extremely easy to make.The main ingredients are mature
coconut flesh, a few lentils, green chili & curry leaves. It is seasoned with mustard,
cumin seeds & curry leaves sauteed in a little oil.


Coconut Chutney


This goes well with all kinds of snacks like bhajias, samosas, kababs, sandwiches &
of course with many South Indian dishes.


Ingredients:



1 cup fresh coconut grated
2 tbsp roasted chana dal (bhuna chana)
2-3 green chili
Salt to taste

For tempering:

1/2 tsp urad dal (split, skinned black gram)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
7-8 curry leaves
1 tsp oil



Method:



1. Grind together all ingredients with little water to a smooth consistency.

2. Heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds when they splutter, add cumin
    seeds & urad dal. Fry till urad dal becomes light brown.

3. Now add curry leaves, fry for a minute.

4. Immediately pour tempering on coconut chutney.

5. Mix it well.

6. Coconut chutney is ready.
