Motichoor Modak
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the very popular festivals celebrated in India with a great devotion specially in the Maharashtra. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh,the younger son of Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati.
Devotees offer various sweets and savouries to the deity because Lord Ganesha loves
sweets. Lord Ganapati is very fond of modaks. Modak is believed to be Ganesha's favourite
food. He is also known as "Modakapriya", someone who likes modak.
There are various kinds of modak like Ukadiche modak, mawa modak, chocolate modak, rava modak, churma modak, fried modak, mango modak, malai modak, kesar modak, coconut modak . I am adding one more in this long list of modaks ......"Motichoor Modak" which you can make for Prasad during this Ganesh festival.
Ingredients:
2 cup gram flour (besan)
1 cup sugar
2 cup water
1/4 tsp orange food color
1 tsp cardamom powder
1 tsp melon seeds
Ghee for frying
Method:
1. Heat sugar with water, orange food color & make sugar syrup with one thread
consistency.
2. Add cardamom powder to the sugar syrup, mix well & keep it aside.
3. Sieve the gram flour (besan) in a bowl add orange food color & mix well.
4. Now add water little by little & make smooth batter. The consistency should be thick.
5. Heat ghee in a pan make boondis using a perforated laddle. Fry for 2-3 minutes.
6. Now drain the boondi on a kitchen towel, put the boondi in the sugar syrup.
7. Repeat the same procedure for remaining batter.
8. Add melon seeds to boondis & mix well.
9. Take a modak mould, grease with ghee, fill in boondis. Make into modak shape.
10. Repeat the same procedure & make all modaks with remaining boondis.
11. Keep in the fridge for an hour.
12. Delicious Motichoor Modaks are ready to offer Lord Ganesh.
